ELWIN
Raye British Wool Cardigan Navy
The Raye cardigan in a true navy hue is made from certified, fully traceable British wool. We use the fleece from a single breed of sheep, Bluefaced Leicester, which has the softest and finest fleece of all the British breeds. Spun Yorkshire and knitted in London - a truly British knit.
The Raye cardigan has a boxy, swingy silhouette and a straight hem with our signature deep rib at the hem and cuffs. It's slightly cropped to finish at the hip. The minimal, modern design combines heritage knitwear details at the seams inspired by English gansey jumpers. It has a beautiful drape and lustre which is characteristic of the breed.
Finished with natural buttons made from nuts which come from the last button maker in the UK. All sewn with cotton thread so that the whole knit is completely biodegradable and can return to soil at the end of it's long and useful life.
Bluefaced Leicester sheep are known for the fineness of their fleece which is why we use it for our knitwear. It's so soft it's often compared to cashmere. Our yarn is fully traceable from farm to fibre which means we know the name of every single farmer who's fleece went into our yarn. It is certified by British Wool which means that farmers are guaranteed a fair price for their wool.
Constructed using the traditional knitting process of fully fashioning whereby each piece of the cardigan is knit separately and then linked together and finished by hand at our partner factory a couple of miles from the studio.
Made in England in small batches.
